Planning for such eventualities, should look to the future potential of the singularity or an escape to space, perhaps with terraforming restoring the earth. The scope of potential futures is wide when considering the impact of the climate crisis. The current geopolitical climate is likely to be one that would have been imagined as an risk to natural gas producers. Yet, the UK intends to continue burning gas into the winter of 2022-2023.
