Future of Work 2025
Insights from TPEX consultancy for decision makers.

The future of work is a landscape shaped by technological advances, shifting societal expectations, and evolving economic pressures. As artificial intelligence and automation continue to transform industries, the very nature of employment is likely to change in ways we may not yet fully grasp. Will traditional job structures persist, or will work become more fluid, shaped by networks of skills and temporary collaborations? Beyond technology, demographic shifts and policy choices—such as taxation, social support systems, and education reform—will determine how individuals and businesses adapt to these changes. Considering these forces, how might the concept of employment itself evolve over the next few decades?
The traditional hierarchy of human management is being steadily eroded by algorithmic systems that measure, evaluate and direct workers with mechanical precision.TPEX, 2025-02-05. Decentralised Inhuman Companies. online.
One key question is whether future work will remain tied to wages and productivity in the same way it is today. If automation reduces the need for human labour in many sectors, does that free society to rethink wealth distribution and the value of non-traditional contributions, such as caregiving, creative work, or community-building? Conversely, if technology enables hyper-efficiency, will new forms of employment emerge that we cannot yet predict? Governments and businesses will have to decide whether to encourage stability through policy interventions—such as universal basic income, skills retraining, or new taxation models—or allow market forces to determine the winners and losers of the transition. Could we see a future where economic security is no longer linked to a full-time job?
At the same time, the physical and social structures of work are likely to shift. The last few decades have already seen a rise in remote work and digital collaboration, but what happens when work becomes fully untethered from fixed locations? Will urban centres adapt to a reality where workforces are more distributed, or could this lead to economic fragmentation between those who can work anywhere and those whose jobs still require physical presence? How will new generations entering the workforce perceive job stability, career progression, and work-life balance? By imagining these possibilities, we can better understand how today’s policy choices might shape—or limit—the future we are moving toward.
