The rise of AGI brings challenges to the job market, with automation threatening to displace many roles. While AGI offers productivity gains and new opportunities, there are real difficulties in ensuring its benefits are shared fairly. To make AGI work for everyone, society must focus on retraining, social safety nets, and policies that prioritise human welfare, preventing deeper inequalities during the transition.
As we have seen with other technologies, there will also be downsides, and we need to start working now to maximize AI's benefits while minimizing its harms.
